The 2023 Formula SAE competition season will see two competitions hosted in North America. SAE International is excited to announce for the first time since its inception in 2013, the Formula SAE Electric Class will operate as a stand-alone competition.

Teams competing as battery electric will register for the June competition branded as Formula SAE Electric. This competition will host battery electric teams only. Registration fees will see an increase to $2650 and the registration limit capped at 75 universities.

Teams can expect to see Formula SAE® hosted in May at Michigan International Speedway. This competition will continue to host the traditional internal combustion engine vehicles only. Registration fees will see the same increase to $2650 however the registration limit capped at 120 universities.

Both competitions will operate a waitlist. Competitions must sell out before waitlist are activated. Teams who end up registered on the waitlist must meet all document deadlines to stay active. Teams will have 24 hours to accept an offer to graduate to the registered teams list if opportunity arises. Teams must graduate off the waitlist one month prior to the competition start date to participate.

SAE has published the 2023 Collegiate Design Series schedule is online. Locations and dates below are tentative.
