In memory of his wife, Suzanne, for the past 4 years at the May Formula SAE competition, Michael Royce has donated 5 sets of the second edition of the book Learn & Compete – A Primer for Formula SAE, Formula Student and Formula Hybrid Teams to teams he believes will benefit greatly from the hundreds of years of knowledge of the contributors.

These books were written, pro bono, by Michael, Suzanne and many of the senior judges that were at the 2026 FSAE competition.

Compared with the single volume first edition, this second edition, released at Formula Student UK in July 2022, has 17 new and many updated chapters, going from 26 chapters and 255 pages to 43 chapters with 473 pages split into 2 volumes. Volume 1 covers Team Organization and Design, while Volume 2 covers car build, test & development and the competition.

Michael was planning on being at the competition but caught a bug 2 weeks prior at Formula Hybrid and is recovering. However, based on the preliminary results, he has chosen 5 teams that he feels will benefit from their contents and enable them to improve their performance at the competition.

The five teams are:

• # 131 Loyola Mary Mount University

Normally he would hand out the books at the competition. But, on this occasion, he will mail them to the teams he has chosen.
