Drive the Future: FSAE Workshop session on Sensor Integration and Autonomous Vehicle Intelligence

7/30/2025 12:30:00 PM ET   Formula SAE Series

Ever wondered how autonomous vehicles “see” and understand the world around them?
Modern self-driving systems are technological marvels, powered by intricate networks of sensors that enable vehicles to perceive, interpret, and navigate complex environments with astonishing precision. In the upcoming student workshop, “Autonomous Sensor Integration: The Product of Orchestrating the Symphony of Today’s Technology,” sponsored by Oshkosh, participants will explore how these advanced systems come together to create truly intelligent mobility.

The session dives into how sophisticated sensor technologies—LiDAR, radar, ultrasonic sensors, and high-resolution cameras—work in harmony to transform raw data into real-time decision-making intelligence. These sensors mimic the capabilities of human perception, continuously analyzing dynamic surroundings and enabling vehicles to safely move through the world. Attendees will get a look at how data flows from the physical environment, through sensor systems, and into algorithms that guide vehicle motion.

Leading the workshop is Dr. Brendan Chan, Senior Chief Engineer for Autonomy and Active Safety at Oshkosh Corporation. Dr. Chan oversees strategy and execution for autonomy and safety systems across Oshkosh products and is deeply involved in advancing the field. He also serves as an associate editor for the SAE International Journal of Commercial Vehicles and has earned multiple recognitions from ASME, SAE, and Tau Beta Pi for his leadership and contributions to the industry.

This session offers students a unique opportunity to learn directly from a leader in the field and explore the cutting-edge technologies shaping the future of transportation. Whether you're interested in robotics, AI, automotive systems, or engineering innovation, this workshop will illuminate the real-world impact of autonomous sensor integration.
