Welcome Formula SAE Teams to Las Vegas Motor Speedway!

SAE is excited to host this year’s competition during a difficult year for us all. Thank you for sticking with us during this year of change! Please note things will be different than a typical year beyond not hosting static events onsite.

The team size limits still hold strong at 15 student members and 1 faculty.

Teams should make sure to print, have all team members and advisor sign and Team Captain/Advisor report to team registration with their FAST TRACK Roster completed.

All team members must also print, sign, and turn in at student registration the additional COVID Liability Waiver found online under Series Resources. All copies can be turned in by Team Captain or Advisor during registration process.

No Spectators Onsite. The event is still closed to spectators as we try to do our part in limiting exposure to COVID.

Updates on COVID restrictions for Nevada was posted recently and be found online news feed.

The Formula SAE APP is now updated with all event descriptions, event site review details and maps for event site layout. We will not have course maps available to publish in advance due to the challenge of working around light posts, but course walks will be available. The event site review details will provide an alphabetical review of important advice, expectations, and policies onsite.

Quick summary of our event site, both mechanical and electrical inspection will be hosted in the Midway Parking lot close to Main Tent and Team Paddocks along with Sponsor Booths. All dynamic tech areas (Tilt, Noise, Brake and Rain Test) will be in the Drag Strip Parking lot along with the Fuel Station, Practice Track and All Dynamic Events. The Drag Strip Parking lot will be considered restricted to just the four team members holding a dynamic pass.

Below are some additional notes:

  • NO Tech Quiz will be used for 2021. Gasoline teams will receive tech number during Gear Check. Electrical teams will report to electric inspection first on a first come, first serve basis.
  • NO Driver Smart Bands will be used for 2021. All drivers do not need to complete driver profile for 2021. All drivers will be given a wristband when being approved in technical inspection.
  • Paddocks will be open Tuesday, June 15th from 5 – 7PM for paddocking only. Teams who need/want to drop off their trailers can do so as well as register.
  • Electric Teams can participate in Accumulator Inspection Tuesday, June 15th from 5:30 – 7PM. This is not mandatory but is step 1 of electrical inspection process.

Some big changes to note vs our other competition venues in past years:

  1. There is No Grilling allowed onsite. Teams can bring outside food onsite however cannot cook onsite. Concessions will be available provided by the track.
  2. The team paddock area will not be in a fenced-in area meaning teams will need to responsible for locking up their property every evening though we will have security onsite.
  3. We are still working on confirming a PA System for meetings; however, all event updates and announcements will be made on the Formula SAE Mobile App. Make sure you have this APP downloaded and notifications on.

Due to the location and weather, participants need to make sure that they are hydrating daily. We cannot stress enough the importance to student competitors to make sure you are taking care of yourself with eating properly and hydrating. We will have onsite a First Aid trailer located near Main Tent that will offer air conditioning if needed to cool down. The Main Tent will also provide shade and air conditioning. We will also have a few porta-cool stations available throughout the event. Also bring sunscreen or wear appropriate clothing to avoid being sunburned.
