Welcome Formula SAE Teams to the Michigan International Speedway!

SAE is thrilled to host this year’s competition during a challenging year for us all. Thank you for sticking with us during this year of change! Please note, things will be different onsite than a typical year beyond not hosting static events onsite.

The team size limits still hold strong at 15 student members and 1 faculty.

Teams should make sure to print, have all team members and advisor sign and Team Captain/Advisor report to team registration with their FAST-TRACK Roster completed.

All team members must also print, sign, and turn in at student registration the additional COVID Liability Waiver found online under Series Resources. All copies can be turned in by Team Captain or Advisor during registration process.

No Spectators Onsite. The event is still closed to spectators as we try to do our part in limiting exposure to COVID.

Updates on COVID restrictions for Michigan was posted recently and can be found online news feed.

The Formula SAE APP is now updated with all event descriptions, event site review details and maps for event site layout. We will not have all course maps available to publish in advance however course walks will be made available. The event site review details will provide an alphabetical review of important advice, expectations, and policies onsite.

Quick summary of our event site, both mechanical and electrical inspection will be hosted in Garages 2 & 3. All dynamic tech areas (Tilt, Noise, Brake and Rain Test) will be within short walking distance of the garages along with the Fuel Station. The Practice Track will be located on back stretch Thursday and Friday but will move on Saturday to end of Pit Lane. Except for Acceleration which will operate on Pit Lane, all other dynamic events will be located on back stretch. All dynamic tech areas and dynamic tracks will be considered restricted to just the four team members holding a dynamic pass (5 team members for electric teams).

Below are some additional notes:

  • NO Tech Quiz will be used for 2021. Gasoline teams will receive tech number during Gear Check. Electrical teams will report to electric inspection first on a first come, first serve basis.
  • NO Driver Smart Bands will be used for 2021. All drivers do not need to complete driver profile for 2021. All drivers will be given a wristband when being approved in technical inspection.
  • Paddocks will be open Tuesday, July 6th from 3:00PM – 5:00PM for paddocking only. Teams who need/want to drop off their trailers can do so as well as register.
  • There will be no early Accumulator Inspection for electric teams at MIS. Accumulator inspection will start Wednesday morning at 8:30AM.
  • RFID Reminder. Dig out that RFID tag used in 2019! Be sure to use/bring the RFID tags previously supplied by SAE to competition with you! Student Registration will have limited supply for assistance if needed. Transponders are still required for Endurance.
  • Student teams will be given a paddock spot that you can park trailer and personal vehicle if it fits. All other personal vehicles will be parked outside of MIS venue in their Fan Zone. Entrance to infield will be gained through the Pedestrian tunnels.

We cannot stress enough the importance to student competitors to make sure you are taking care of yourself and your team members with eating properly, hydrating and getting sufficient rest while onsite. The lack of these three essential components is leading cause for any onsite medical treatment.

Safe travels to all teams! We look forward to having you onsite the week of July 7th!
